The Forsythe girl’s soccer team gave back to their community and honored their former teammate Anna LeFort by serving meals to the less fortunate in downtown Ann Arbor last night.
The Lady Vikings 7th and 8th grade team volunteered to assist the Vineyard Church in its regular Friday night program to feed homeless and needy families at Liberty Plaza Park. Girls served pizza and hot chocolate and delivered bags filled with food and personal hygiene items during the inaugural Anna’s Kindness service project.
“We wanted to make sure we did something with Anna’s Kindness this year, and the reason I chose this project was because I wanted the girls to be right there and volunteering hands-on and seeing how they are impacting the community. I thought it would be really great to have them do what Anna did, which was have an impact in the community,” said Coach Morgan Burgard.
Anna was a regular volunteer at the Humane Society in Rapid City, SD, and a member of student council, prior to moving to Ann Arbor before the start of her 7th grade year. Once in Michigan, Anna continued her service to others. She volunteered to mentor special needs students, to help new students acclimate to middle school, and was looking forward to joining student council.
“Why I wanted to do this was because I wanted to help people who are less fortunate. It just makes you feel better as a person,” said Olivia Wright, an 8th grader who played with Anna last year.
Brooklyn Warren, also an 8th grader and Anna’s teammate last year, agreed. “The more you help, the better you feel. Other people’s situations are worse.”
