If there was any doubt whether the Miracle League ballplayers would warm up to our Anna’s Kindness volunteers on Saturday, all doubt was dispelled when Anna’s brother Alex was introduced to his special needs ballplayer for Saturday’s ballgame.
Alex got a big hug.
Abdullah welcomed Alex as his baseball buddy for the day’s game with a huge hug, as Abdullah and his Blue Miracles teammates were paired up with our Anna’s Kindness middle school volunteers.
Tappan sixth graders Clara Peikert and Deanna Pych were paired up with Alissa, while fellow Tappan student Mia Corcoran made sure wheelchair-bound Katie had a great time. STEAM Middle School 8th grader Cooper Forward may have been the Baseball Buddy for the strongest hitter in the Blue Miracles lineup, Jim, who laced a single right up the middle in his first at-bat.
Forsythe sixth graders Noah Silkworth and Nicholas Colias helped Charlie hold and swing his bat, while Alex and Abdullah had a blast together on the bases, in the field and in the dugout.
And there were high fives everywhere. Clara and Deanna high-fived Alissa as she crossed home plate. Cooper gave his buddy Jim a high-five for his line drive base hit in the first inning. Every player got on base and scored in the two-inning contest between the Blue Miracles and the Tigers.
When our volunteers weren’t helping the special needs ballplayers with their hitting, they were assisting them in running the bases, playing catch with them in the outfield, and cheering on their success.
Thank you to the Anna’s Kindness families who drove their students to Plymouth to participate in this special ballgame. And thank you to Kelly and the Miracle League of Plymouth for allowing Anna’s Kindness to be Baseball Buddies Saturday.
