Anna’s Kindness volunteers from Forsythe, Clague, and Tappan middle schools received a crash course in wrapping Christmas presents for children in need Saturday afternoon.
The students descended upon the downtown Ann Arbor United Methodist Church — with a parent in tow — to wrap gifts for underresourced families in Washtenaw County, gifts which will be distributed by the Community Action Network for the holidays.
The students arrived with varying degrees of experience wrapping gifts, but they were quickly schooled in the art of sharp creases, tight corners, and cutting just the right amount of wrapping paper to minimize waste. Forsythe’s Lydia Helfrich, Colin Franzen, Norah LeCloux, Tappan’s Lucia Bliss, Stella Hearty, Nina and Joe Bonenberger, and Clague’s Ava Zangana, Kyce Shamma, and Jade and Sawyer Thompson all had the expert assistance of a parent working with them at the wrapping tables.
Once the students had mastered the simpler rectangular boxes, they were promoted to the much trickier footballs and snow boots, which required a little more instruction from their parents. But even the more challenging gifts weren’t enough to prevent the volunteers from wrapping all the necessary presents in less than 90 minutes. Well done students.
Thank you to the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor and the Community Action Network for allowing our volunteers to brighten Christmas for area children. Thanks also to Kate Lewit for hosting this Anna’s Kindness event on our behalf.
