Four Anna’s Kindness volunteers. Twenty-nine kittens looking for their attention.
It was a great ratio for our cat-loving middle school volunteers Saturday afternoon, who spent two hours showing love to all the kittens at Leuk’s Landing. The kittens suffer from feline leukemia, and Leuk’s provides a quality of life for these kittens who may not otherwise have homes.
Lex, Leon, Luciana and Lola (yes, that’s right, four L’s volunteering at Leuk’s Landing … no we didn’t plan it that way :)) spent two hours with the cats, who took turns finding available laps, and conveyed their contentment with purrs and head butts. It was difficult to discern who was happier, the cats or the volunteers. It was a definite win-win.
And when the students weren’t petting and playing with the kittens, “detective” Leo led the volunteers in a fun game of matching each of the cats to their photos.
If you’re wondering if the volunteers had an excellent afternoon, just listen to the questions they asked:
Lola: I want a cat like this (one who will lay on my lap). Can I stay here forever?
Luciana: This is one of my best days! I don’t want to leave. I’m going to tell my parents to get a garage and turn it into a house for cats.
Lex: Do these cats really like the classical music? (There was music playing in background)
Leo: I wish I could do this every week!
Thank you so much to Leuk’s Landing host, Cindy, who patiently and thoroughly answered the volunteers’ questions about the cats, the facility, and feline leukemia. And a special thank you to Anna’s Kindness board member Kate Lewit for hosting the students.
