Life during pandemic restrictions can be stressful and lonely, especially for nursing home residents who aren’t permitted to receive visits from family or friends.
But they are permitted to receive cards.
More than 20 Anna’s Kindness volunteers from Pioneer and Skyline high schools, Forsythe and Clague middle schools, Emerson School, and Wines Elementary School sent springtime cards and well wishes to the elderly residents in The Gilbert Residence nursing facility’s Grace Hall.
The cards were collected from the students and then emailed them to the Gilbert Residence to adhere to their current safety protocol. Their staff then printed the cards and distributed them to a very surprised and super appreciative group of senior citizens.
The cards featured lots of bright springtime colors with words of encouragement, personally addressed to each resident in Grace Hall.
Almost every resident had a huge smile on their face when they received the card. The comments ranged from “That’s wonderful,” “Oh wow,” “That’s beautiful,” to “They’re so smart.”
Miss Claire summed up her satisfaction: “They should do this more often.”
