With so many health care facilities facing a shortage of PPE, Anna’s Kindness volunteers welcomed the opportunity to directly help front-line nurses and support staff in the fight against COVID-19.
Anna’s Kindness connected with Angels Wear Gowns, an organization of volunteers creating hospital-approved isolation gowns for health care facilities across Michigan. Angels secures the supplies through donations from local businesses and then distributes the materials to its ever-growing network of volunteers.
Anna’s Kindness volunteer families received supplies and made 100 hospital-approved isolation gowns for Michigan’s front-line health care workers last weekend and they were delivered this week.
Four Anna’s Kindness volunteer families each received a 10×100 box of heavyweight plastic, box tape, and a template for the gowns. They spent the weekend measuring, cutting, folding, taping, and rolling their way to creating a total of 100 approved gowns.
Angels Wear Gowns co-founder Robyn Staebler then designated the gowns for The Gilbert Residence, which coincidentally is one of Anna’s Kindness charity partners; volunteers had spent time with Gilbert seniors several times during the pre-pandemic school year.
Anna’s dad, Michael, delivered the gowns Wednesday to an appreciative Gilbert nursing staff.
Thank you to our volunteer families who spent several hours creating these gowns: Pioneer High School’s Carina Sanborn and her mother Cathy; Pioneer High School’s Hayley Marchand and her mother Fran; Forsythe Middle School 8th grader Heather Hale and her mother Christine; and Anna’s brother Alex LeFort and her mother Fran.
Thanks to Andrea for letting us know about Angels Wear Gowns, and a big thank you to Robyn for allowing us to play a small role in your wonderful service to front-line health care workers.
