Another great year of service that even a pandemic couldn’t stop
28 volunteer opportunities. Over 300 students. This month officially brought to a close Anna’s Kindness’ third school year of providing students with opportunities to serve others, and it was the largest yet.
The student volunteer projects were incredibly diverse: Serving Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless, sweeping out the barn at a horse sanctuary, making holiday cards with nursing home residents, dancing the night away with special needs prom guests, wrapping Christmas gifts for children in need, playing baseball with disabled children, spending quality time with cats suffering from leukemia, and foster dogs awaiting adoption … and more … whew.
And that was all before the pandemic.
Once the lockdown began, it appeared Anna’s Kindness service projects would come to a premature end this school year. Instead, suddenly there were whole new ways to serve those in need. Student volunteers made face masks for the homeless, posters to celebrate health care workers, springtime cards to cheer up the senior citizens in quarantine … and they made more than 300 isolation gowns for front-line health care workers.
What a way to finish out the school year.
A sincere thanks to the Anna’s Kindness board members and the wonderful parent hosts who help make all this possible. There is a lot of uncertainty heading into next school year, but one thing the pandemic has proven: There will always be opportunities to serve others.
Thank you for continuing to support the mission of keeping Anna’s memory alive by spreading her kindness and compassion through student service to those less fortunate.
