When rescued dogs arrive at Mikey & Me foster dog facility, they don’t sign long-term leases. Not even month-to-month.
Never has that been more apparent than this month.
When Anna’s Kindness volunteers arrived at Mikey & Me Saturday, they were delighted to find out that two of the foster dogs — Miles and Tux — were being adopted and would be heading to their forever homes later that day (that would be Mikey & Me’s 144th and 145th adoption, for those wondering). In addition, Ellie, an athletic shepherd mix, was scheduled to be adopted this week.
So not only did our volunteers get to spend time with the soon-to-be-departing residents, they were also introduced to new arrivals, Rizzo and Cody, an adorable black and white mixed puppy. Rizzo was a beautiful German Shepherd, but needed to kept away from the other dogs until she got acclimated to her new surroundings.
The volunteers spent the day playing with the dogs inside, outside, and taking them for walks on the property. The value of visits by Anna’s Kindness volunteers is not only providing walks, but to help socialize the dogs and make them comfortable around people and children, preparing them to be adopted into a family home.
Thanks to Forsythe Middle School’s Huck Amick and Jocelyn Wall, and Tappan Middle School’s Stella Hearty and Signe Hayden (and their parents) for spending quality time with the dogs over the weekend. Thanks to Fran and Hayley Marchand for hosting the volunteers for Anna’s Kindness, and thanks to Mikey & Me’s Dan DePew and his volunteers for allowing us to be a part of their wonderful mission of finding homes for rescued dogs.
