Sand can cost thousands of dollars to have delivered, especially the amount of sand needed to cover the ring in a horse barn. And when the horse barn belongs to a horse rescue charity that relies on donations to survive, well, thousands of dollars may not be readily available.
So Anna’s Kindness volunteers helped save the horse rescue that expense.
Our eight middle school volunteers arrived Saturday morning at Starry Skies Horse Rescue and Sanctuary and began shoveling existing sand that had gotten pushed to the edges of the ring by the horses’ hoof. Our volunteers scooped up shovel after shovel of sand from the corners of the ring, and then carried the sand to the middle of the ring and dumped it.
Once the laborious task was completed, the volunteers had provided the sanctuary horses with a much more comfortable ring for walking and also saved Starry Skies the expense of a sand shipment.
Thank you to Forsythe Middle School students Chiza Ilozor, Grieta Ham, Jake Kowalk, Sofia Delis, Sophia Ricci, Pavel Hristov, Slauson Middle School’s Elise Braun, and A2 Steam’s Maggie Beeson for your hard work moving the sand for the sanctuary. And thanks to Bridget and Starry Skies for allowing our volunteers to help with your wonderful mission.
