Rainstorm couldn’t dampen the surprise, joy of The Gilbert senior citizens

April 9, 2021
Anna’s Kindness volunteers showed up at The Gilbert Residence with smiles, cards, and umbrellas. From left, Clara Peikert, Aditi Gopalakrishnan, Eloise Cras, Lily Soldan, Nico Colias, Meg Pinkerton, Lakshya Jaiganesh, and Toby Colias.

Thursday afternoon’s weather may have been grey and overcast with scattered heavy rainstorms, but it was a beautiful, memorable day for the seniors at The Gilbert Residence.

The smiles were out even if the sun wasn’t, because Anna’s Kindness volunteers showed up at the Ypsilanti nursing care facility and surprised the assisted living residents. Not only did our middle school volunteers create handmade, personalized springtime cards which were handed out to the residents by staff, but then the students walked window to window, umbrella in one hand, waving with the other.

This was the first of 6 volunteer events over 4 days, as we celebrated Anna’s Day of Kindness weekend with Ann Arbor area students.

Thank you to Tappan Middle School’s Meg Pinkerton, Lily Soldan, Carla Peikert, Clague Middle School’s Aditi Gopalakrishnan, Lakshya Jaiganesh, and Eloise Cras, and Forsythe Middle School’s Nico and Toby Colias for bringing a lot of sunshine into the afternoons of these seniors. A special thanks to Stacy Colias for helping host the event and to Maureen and her Gilbert staff for helping to set up the event for our volunteers.
