For more than 200 foster care children, Christmas presents will be arriving this year in specially made and decorated boxes from Anna’s Kindness.
A dozen Anna’s Kindness students (and their parents) representing seven different Ann Arbor schools helped the Michigan Foster Care Closet assemble festive Christmas boxes for the foster families who will be picking up gifts this month for their children. The event was held last Saturday at Pineview Church in Ypsilanti.
Our volunteers came together and were soon working like a veteran assembly line: One group built the boxes and then passed them along to the next group, which decorated the boxes with holiday wrapping paper. The boxes — which were to hold presents being dropped off by donors the following day — were then labeled for each recipient foster family and their children.
Student volunteers included Clague Middle School’s Alex Hannah, Forsythe Middle School’s Teddy Ham, Tappan Middle School’s Danika, Brandon, and Sean Stone, Pioneer High School’s Hannah Link, Huron High School’s Khalil Jones and Odein Orubibi, Father Gabriel Richard High School’s Caroline Kinsherf, and Skyline High School’s Lewis McCammon, Arya and Arjun Joshi, Wesley Lovelace, and Bailey Edison. A special thanks to Robin Edison and her family helpers Liam, Lila, and Grayson for hosting the event for Anna’s Kindness.
And a huge thanks to Rachael and her MFCC charity for allowing us to play a role in their special holiday surprise for area foster families.
